Julio Chavez Jr. vs. Pawel Wolak fight, cancelled

After the long preparation and training for the big fight on Sunday, middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. decided to back out from his fight against Pawel Wolak.

This is due to the recurring flu and ill-feeling of the son of the boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr.

According to Top Rank Promotion President Bob Arum, Chavez Jr.’s body temperature was in 103 degrees Fahrenheit when the undefeated boxer woke up this morning so he better withdraw from the fight.

Arum said, "He looked like he had shaken it and he worked out Monday. I was there and I saw it. His legs were a little tight but he worked out OK. (Tuesday morning) he got up with a 103 fever. He tried. You can't fault the kid. You can't put him in a fight with a temperature. It is absolutely legitimate.”

Furthermore, Arum said that Julio Jr. was feeling well enough on Monday to work out at trainer Freddie Roach's Wild Card gym in Hollywood, California, but the temperature recurred.

Despite this, Top Rank was able to find the replacement opponent of Wolak in the person of Jose Pinzon.

Arum added that there will still be a pay-per- card fight on Sunday, only the Chavez Jr.-Wolak fight is cancelled.

Included in the undercard fights are two-division world champion Nonito Donaire against Vladimiro Sidorenko for the vacant bantamweight interim title and WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto against Urbano Antillon.
